Volunteering and Work Experience

Volunteering

Would you like to give something back to your community?

Volunteering with Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust could not only give you an opportunity to learn new skills; more importantly you will get the chance to help others by providing support to people from all walks of life.

At the moment the Trust has over 400 volunteers on hand to work within the hospital environment and who are available to help not only patients, but staff and visitors too. By joining our team, any help you can provide will be of benefit towards enhancing services which already exist across the Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital sites.

We are always looking for individuals who are willing to give some of their time voluntarily to help provide support in areas around the Trust where it is needed most.

If you are committed, enthusiastic and able to interact well with others and have some time on your hands, you could be the type of person we are looking for to occupy this rewarding role.

If you are interested and would like to apply for a Volunteer post, or if you would like further information on how you could help make a difference, please contact the Voluntary Services Manager on: (01482) 461152

Please note: You will be required to undertake a CRB Disclosure Check and Health Check before commencing in a voluntary role with the Trust.

Work Experience

Work experience within Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is open to two specific groups of students:

School Students

Work experience is available to all students in Years 10, 12 & 13 as part of their schools formal work experience programme.  Initial contact is usually made by the student themselves and a ‘self-canvassed work experience’ form is sent in for completion by the Trust’s Work Experience Coordinator.

As students under the age of 17 are unable to attend any placements within clinical areas, Year 10 Work Experience placements are mostly within Administration positions throughout the Trust.

Further Education

The second type of placement we offer is to further education students when it is a recognised requirement of their course. We currently work with several Colleges, 6th Forms and Acadamies in Hull and East Riding - mostly with Level 3 programmes, such as BTEC National in Health Studies.

Unfortunately the Trust cannot accept ad-hoc requests for Work Experience.

Prior to the start of the placement, each student is screened by our Occupational Health Department and is then sent a formal offer of placement letter. For Further Education Students, as they will attend extended placements, they are also required to provide a valid Criminal Records Bureau Certificate.

On starting their placements within the Trust, students are given a full induction and are made aware of all Health and Safety and Fire Regulations for the department in which they are working.

If you would like further information on the work experience described above within Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, please contact the Work Experience Coordinator on 01482 676493. Thank you very much for your interest in Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
